Gujarat recorded 799 new COVID-19 infections on Wednesday, taking its tally to 2,44,258, while 834 more patients recovered from the disease, bringing the active cases below the 10,000-mark, said the state health department.
With seven more patients succumbing to the infection, the death toll rose to 4,302, it said.
As many as 834 patients were discharged from hospitals, pushing the number of recovered cases to 2,29,977, the department said in a release.
With this, the COVID-19 recovery rate further improved to 94.15 percent, while the number of active cases dropped below the 10,000-mark.
There are now 9,979 active cases in Gujarat, of which 62 patients are on ventilators, the department said.
A total of 54,708 tests were conducted for detection of the virus on Wednesday, taking the number of samples examined so far in Gujarat to 95,98,108, the release said.
Ahmedabad reported 164 new cases, Surat 147, Vadodara 128, and Rajkot 88.
Among other districts, Kutch reported 26 new cases, Gandhinagar 24, Junagadh 17, Bharuch, Mehsana and Panchmahal 16 each, Anand and Dahod 15 each, and Kheda 11.
Three out of the seven new fatalities were reported in Ahmedabad, and one each in Gandhinagar, Rajkot, Surat, and Vadodara, said the department.
No new cases were reported in the adjoining Union Territory of Daman, Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli, health officials said.
The number of COVID-19 cases and recoveries remained unchanged at 3,346 and 3,333, respectively, they said.

164 new cases, three deaths in Ahmedabad district
The tally of coronavirus cases in Ahmedabad district rose to 57,474 on Wednesday with 164 new cases coming to light, the highest in Gujarat, the state health department said.
The district also reported three fatalities, also highest in the state, during the day. It took the death toll in the district to 2,246.
With 169 patients getting discharged, the total of recovered cases rose to 52,303.
Ahmedabad city reported 157 new cases and 163 recoveries.
The number of active cases in the city is 2,433.
In rural Ahmedabad, total COVID-19 cases rose to 3,897 with seven new cases. Recoveries rose to 3,813, with six more patients getting discharged.
The bed occupancy at private hospitals designated for treatment of coronavirus has dropped further to 16.4 percent, with 589 out of 3,600 beds being occupied, the Ahmedabad Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association said.
Surat reports 147 new cases, 161 recoveries
Surat district reported 147 new COVID-19 cases and one more death on Wednesday, the state health department said.
With this, the number of coronavirus cases in the district rose to 49,098, while the death toll increased to 1,136, it said.
Also, 161 patients were discharged from hospitals following recovery, the department said in a release.
Surat city reported 117 new cases and 124 recoveries, while the rural areas registered 30 fresh infections and 37 discharges, it said.
The COVID-19 recovery rate in Surat city rose to 95.57 percent with 35,172 COVID-19 patients getting discharged from hospitals so far, the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) said.
As many as 8,819 people are quarantined in the city, it said.
The number of patients currently admitted to various city hospitals is 219. This includes 64 patients in two government hospitals – civil and SMIMER – which have the bed occupancy rate of 1.7 and 3.2 percent, respectively, the SMC said.
The Athwa locality has so far reported7,071 COVID-19 cases, the highest among the city”s various zones, followed by Katargam at 5,976, the SMC said.
