The Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI) is hosting a high-level delegation of the Andhra Pradesh government. The delegation began its three-day tour of Gujarat on Thursday to study the implementation of various town planning schemes in the state and replicate the same in AP, a senior official said.
Speaking with navjeevanexpress.com, ITPI national president NK Patel said, “The Andhra Pradesh Government is planning to implement Town Planning schemes in urban local bodies of the state. The delegation is here to study the implementation of town planning schemes in Gujarat, and the impact they have had on urban development. We are happy to share ITPI’s perspective on integrated town planning with the delegation.”
Patel, who served as a town planner in the Gujarat government and AUDA for 17 years before launching his real estate venture, also made presentations about the various facets and aspects of town planning before the delegation at the ITPI office.
The delegation led by Y Srilakshmi, Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh, comprises 25 senior government officials, municipal commissioners, town planners, and housing and urban development authorities.
On day one of their study tour, the delegation paid a visit to the Gandhi Ashram and the Sabarmati Riverfront.
On Friday, the delegation will make a field visit to get a firsthand experience of a town planning scheme at the SP Ring Road. The team will also hold discussions with AUDA officials and town planners on reconstitution of TP schemes. Later they will visit the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to understand the system of Transfer of Development Rights (TDR), Slum Improvement Scheme, and Transit-Oriented development, etc.
The officials will also visit the GIFT City, home to the country’s only International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), before culminating the study tour.
