NEW DELHI, FEB 20
The Delhi High Court on Friday rebuked the Delhi police for arresting three Muslims in connection with killing of another Muslim during the anti-Muslim riots in Northeast Delhi during February last year.
The case pertained to one Shahid, who died after suffering gunshot injury on the rooftop of Saptrishi building.
In the charge sheet, police had accused Junaid, Chand Mohammed and Irshad of being involved in the murder of Shahid. All of them were granted bail on Friday.
While granting bail, Justice Suresh Kumar Kait observed that “it is hard to believe that a communal riot can be used by the petitioners (accused persons) to cause death of a person of their own community”.
The court also noted that the three Muslim accused had tried to save the members of the Hindu community. “If they were really involved in this communal riot and wanted to cause harm to the members of the other community, they would not have tried to save the lives of the above-named members of the other community”, the Judge said in the bail order.

As both the accused and the victims had their farms adjoining each other and used to work on their respective fields, Vinay mixed some pesticide in a drinking water bottle which was consumed by the three Dalit girls. While two of them 13 and 16-year-old died, another one, who is 17-year-old, is battling for her life in a Kanpur hospital.
