Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly, Siddaramaiah on Wednesday accused the Central government of spreading Corona virus in the country.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siddaramaiah said, “The Central government played the role of a catalyst in increasing the number of Covid-19 cases by allowing events like Kumbh mela and huge campaigns during election.”

He also urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the “ongoing health emergency” in the country.

Siddaramaiah also noted that the Central government has failed to plan for the second wave in advance, despite warnings from the Parliamentary Committee, and added that “it was unfortunate that the Central government was doing very little to ease the stress.”

He demanded that the Centre should be committed to help state governments combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

Earlier, National Vice president of Indian Medical Association (IMA), Navjot Dahiya, had accused PM Modi of being a “super spreader” in second wave of Covid-19 by holding multiple election rallies in states like West Bengal, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu where lakhs of people attended such rallies and road shows. He also criticized the government for allowing Mahakumbh mela at the banks of Ganges attended by lakhs of people. According to reports, every second person that is being tested for Corona virus in Kolkata, is turning out to be positive for the virus.

International newspapers and media houses such as The Guardian and The Australian have echoed similar sentiments on handling and spreading of Covid-19 in India.

International Australian cricketer, who is part of Rajasthan Royals IPL team, has criticized the IPL franchisees and the government for spending huge money on cricket at a time when the country is facing an unprecedented health crisis. He wrote, “Looking at it from an Indian point of view, how are these companies and franchises as also the government, spending so much money on the IPL when there are people not being able to get a bed in hospitals?”
