AHMEDABAD, AUG 7

Healthcare workers consisting of doctors and nurses have been fighting COVID-19 from the front. They put their own lives at risk with selfless determination for saving the lives of the people. The least we as a society can do is appreciate and respect their efforts.

In a morale-boosting move, Ahmedabad units of Aakash Educational Services Limited (AESL has honoured 15 of its for their COVID-19 work as frontline workers on Friday. Some of doctors felicitated are Dr Ansy Patel, Dr Harsh Trivedi, Dr Priyam Patel and Dr Jainam Shah who completed their MBBS degree in 2020. Gujarati medium students who took training for COVID duty were also felicitated as a form of encouragement.

Ansy, Harsh and Ayushi are students of BJ Medical College while Priyam and Jainam have pursued their MBBS from Smt N H L Municipal Medical College in Ahmedabad. When these alumni graduated from the medical college, COVID-19 was already wreaking havoc in the lives of people across the country. The students saw death from close quarters. COVID-19 had claimed the lives of some of their own professors and seniors who were in the line of duty.

For the new doctors, Aakash Institute is almost akin to their second home. They had been with the institute since Class XI. Through their hard work, and from the expert guidance of their Aakash teachers, the students cleared their medical entrance exam with flying colours.

Talking about their COVID-19 work, Dr Ansy and Dr Harsh said, “Our professors at college taught us that being a doctor is selfless profession, you need to think about others, about their safety and wellbeing. And at Aakash Institute, we were trained not only for test preparation but also for facing the challenges of the profession. We were fortunate to be with inspiring people right from the start.”

Dr Priyam and Dr Jainam added, “Covid came all of a sudden, people were not prepared, people were helpless. The situation was dire. We could never have thought sitting idle at home while the people suffer. Being a doctor has its own onus and responsibility, we need to serve, we need to save lives. People were not prepared, it caused havoc and as doctors we had to get into it and do our bit.”

Their message to the medical aspirants: “Hard work along with smart work is the key to success. Keep attempting as many mock papers as you can. No amount of preparation will ever be enough. The more you study, the more chances you have of securing a good rank, getting into a good college, becoming a good doctor. Consistency is the key.”

Ayushi Bhimani, a first year MBBS student was recently trained under expert guidance to stay prepared for the third wave of the pandemic. She said, “I started my college life this year and since the last 2 years I’ve been seen people suffering, dying, gasping for breath.  When I got a chance to be future ready by learning the skills to combat the pandemic, I grabbed it. I learnt a lot of life saving skills and hope to utilize them for the safety of people around me.”

In his comments, Aakash Chaudhry, Managing Director, Aakash Educational Services Ltd, said, “Our students who are serving people during the pandemic inspire us to double down on our efforts to create many more medical aspirants realise their dreams and become valuable members of the medical fraternity and the society. Our unwavering focus to enhance the effectiveness of our training has made us the leader in test preparation. But it is the emphasis of our training on the values required for a noble profession like medicine that help us gain the respect of our alumni, their parents, and the society.”
