Commemorating 50 years of the victory of the Indian Armed Forces in the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, the year 2021 is being celebrated as ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ and as part of the commemoration, Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani welcomed the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashaal’ or the victory flame at Sabarmati Riverfront in Ahmedabad on Tuesday evening.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had flagged off four Swarnim Vijay Mashals to four different directions of the country on 16th of December last year to mark the India’s victory in 1971 war.
The Western Swarnim Vijay Victory Flame arrived in Gujarat on July 29. It reached Ahmedabad on August 17 wherein an impressive event was conducted at the iconic Sabarmati Riverfront.
Gujarat Governor Achrya Devvrat lauded the valour of the Armed Forces and felicitated ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen of the 1971 war on this occasion.
He said that country will never forget the heroic fight by the Indian Army.
Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister.Rupani said that the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War was a symbol of sacrifices and dedication of Indian soldiers.
Lieutenant General JS Nain, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command paid rich tributes to our heroes and gallant soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.
Youth witnessing the event said, “We are extremely thrilled and excited to be part of such a noble celebration. We are deeply inspired and humbled by the sacrifices made by our soldiers and will always stand by our Armed Forces”.
The patriotic songs and music were played by Army Band on this occasion.
The event, organised by the Indian Army, was attended by a host of civil and military dignitaries at Ahmedabad.
