According to sources, some people allegedly jumped from the building to save their lives. Police said that some workers were also injured in the incident.
“Two people have died following the incident,” said Rupal Solanki, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Bardoli Division.
Meanwhile, 125 people have been rescued so far by the fire department, according to sub-divisional magistrate KG Vaghela. More than 100 people were pulled out by the hydraulic lift.
More than 10 fire brigades are on the spot trying to douse the fire.
Incidentally, The Supreme Court had recently observed that medical institutions in India have become large industries that thrive on human distress while hearing a plea regarding fire accidents in hospitals across the country. Hearing a suo motu plea regarding fire incidents in COVID hospitals, the apex court asked if hospitals were providing service to humanity or the real estate industry.
The bench also pulled up the Gujarat government for failing to follow guidelines regarding the fire safety measures in hospitals and asked why the state government had extended the time till June 2022 for hospitals to get NOC despite the Supreme Court’s order. The case is still going on in the SC.
