NEW DELHI, OCT 18

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is chairing a high-level meeting of the state police chiefs and intelligence officials on Monday to review the overall security and policing issues across the country.

  • Kashmir Valley has been witnessing a spate of attacks on non-local residents, prompting the government to intensify the anti-militancy operations

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and Intelligence Bureau Chief Arvind Kumar are attending the meeting, also known as the National Security Strategy Conference (NSSC).

The attendees also included officials of the IB and the DGPs of border guarding forces BSF, ITBP, and the SSB.

The security situation in Kashmir in the wake of the latest civilian killings and Maoist insurgency in various states are expected to be part of the discussion.

Kashmir Valley has been witnessing a spate of attacks on non-local residents, prompting the government to intensify the anti-militancy operations. Four persons were shot dead in the last two days, spreading panic among the Kashmiri Pandit and Sikh communities in the Union Territory.

“In the meeting, the elaborate discussion is expected to be held in security situations in Jammu and Kashmir, Naxal affected areas, cross border crimes, drugs and other issues that pertain to the threat of internal security. Joint efforts will be discussed to come over threats and enhance internal security,” an officer said.
