Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Dr L Murugan on Saturday said the Indian Film Personality of the Year Award to be presented to veteran actress and MP Ms Hema Malini will be an honour to the state and add glory to Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, he recalled that Superstar Rajinikanth was presented with the award in the past.
Tracking the history of IFFI, he said that starting 1952, IFFI was held in various cities of the country, before the venue was shifted to Goa in 2004 thanks to the efforts of the then Chief Minister, late Manohar Parirkar it has become a permanent venue for the event.
“The coveted event is happening in Goa every year. The 52nd IFFI is starting today. To mark the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav which celebrates 75 years of Indian independence, films of 75 young talents will be screened at IFFI. For the first time, OTT players are attending the event,” he said.
Stating that films from across the world are set to be screened at the festival, Dr Murugan said directors, producers, writers, technicians and industry veterans from all over India and world are attending various events that have been planned as part of IFFI.

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Dr L Murugan on Saturday paid rich tributes to late legends of Indian cinema- M G Ramachandran (MGR), N T Ramarao (NTR) and Sivaji Ganesan.
In his address at the inaugural of the 52nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, Dr Murugan said, “I wish to mention the immense contribution of some of the legendary icons like MGR, NTR and Sivaji Ganeshan to the cinema.”
He added: “Here, I also remember the great Dileep Kumar, Punit Rajkumar, Sumitra Bhave and many others, who left us in the last year. The world of movies shall ever be indebted to you.”
Dr Murugan said that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India aims to become the attractive destination for filmmaking. “With the focus on ease of doing business, we have opened Film Facilitation Office, for a single-point contact to facilitate the filmmakers.”
Hailing IFFI as one of the most iconic film festivals, he said, it provides a common platform for filmmakers from across the globe to showcase their talent. Bringing together film cultures, the festival allows the understanding of various social and cultural ethos, and appreciation of world cinema, he added.
“That’s why, with the initiative of our Minister Anurag Thakur, in this Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, IFFI has invited 75 young creative minds in the field of movies,” he said.
