To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, over 70 Air warriors of No 3 Air Force Selection Board, Gandhinagar and their families undertook a 50-km night walkathon on Saturday, February 8, 2020. It was flagged off by Air Commodore Deshpal Singh, a Defence PRO release said.
The event was dedicated to the Mahatma’s spirit of ‘Perseverance in pursuit of goal’. Air warriors, in a unique way, paid homage to the Father of the Nation by symbolically depicting walking on the arduous path of truth shown by the Mahatma.
More than 70 air warriors and their families from the Selection Board participated in the event in which they walked for 12 hours continuously. It was flagged off by Air Commodore Deshpal Singh who also joined them in the walkathon. The idea was to move from ‘despair’ to ‘hope’ by strengthening self during adversity and with the onset of dawn, usher in hope with positive thinking and activities contributing to the society. Air warriors interacted with morning walkers and spread the message of ‘Fit India’, ‘Swachchh Bharat’ and Gandhian ideals.
Air Commodore Deshpal Singh said in his address that the motivation behind the Walkathon was Gandhiji’s inspiring qualities of ‘Faith in Self’, ‘Persistence’ and ‘Strength of Character’ that pushes one to give ones maximum to a cause.
No 3 Air Force Selection Board plays a pivotal role
No 3 Air Force Selection Board has been operational at Gandhinagar since 2012 and has been entrusted with a vital role of testing and selection of young aspiring candidates in the region and selected for training to be commissioned as officers in all the three Services, including IAF. Air warriors are specially trained by the Defence Institute of Psychological Research, Delhi for the selection purpose and are highly motivated.
