NEW DELHI, DEC 9

Having achieved their goals, farmers on Thursday announced to end their over 15 month stir against the now repealed farm laws and other issues, including guarantee on MSP (minimum support price).

The farmers will now start heading home from December 11, reports said.

The announcement comes a day after the Centre had sent a draft proposal to the SKM’s five-member committee on Wednesday.

The Centre’s proposal came following a SKM letter on November 21 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi listing six demands.

The farmers had mentioned that repeal of the three contentious farm laws was only one of the several concerns they had raised.

The farmers had refused to leave after PM Modi announced the cancelling of the three farm laws and requested them to go back to their homes.

The Centre has agreed to form a committee to decide on the MSP issue.

It has said the committee will consist of government officials, agriculture experts and representatives from the SKM.

Besides, the Centre has also agreed to drop all police cases against farmers, including g cases of stubble burning and the other violent cases against them filed in the past several months.

The Central government has assured the farmers that all cases against them relating to the protests will be immediately withdrawn, while it has also appealed to all states to do the same.
