Steel major ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS India) has been playing a vital role in improving the health and well-being of people from Gujarat and neighbouring Maharashtra as part of its CSR, says a senior official of the company here on Wednesday.
AM/NS India has established a Haemophilia Care Centre along with the New Civil Hospital, Surat. Recognised by the World Federation of Haemophilia and the Haemophilia Federation of India, the centre is the only one dedicated to treating haemophilia in the state in Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode.
“Haemophilia is found in one out of every 10,000 persons. We are happy to have created a permanent infrastructure and arranged for a dedicated specialised team that provides free medical care to patients for this disease which is found in a good number of haemophilia cases in the region,” said Anil Matoo of AM/NS India.
The Haemophilia Care Centre caters to around 40-45 patients a day, most of who are from Gujarat and adjoining areas in Maharashtra. Since January, the centre has served 685 persons, the majority of them from the low-income segment, and until now, more than 2,500 patients have benefitted.

The centre also generates awareness and provides counselling to patients, family members and other persons to address haemophilia, which is a condition in which the blood does not clot properly.
