Digital initiative: Passengers can now pay for railway tickets via QR code, says SR GM AK Agarwal

Through this facility, after entering the journey details, while paying the ticket fare, in addition to existing options, passengers will get two new options i.e., UPI through Paytm and UPI through Freecharge. For making payment through QR code, passengers have to select one of these two options. They will be able to make the payment once the code is displayed on the ATVM screen.

Aiming to encourage cashless transactions and to increase digital payments, the Southern  Railway has introduced an additional facility for rail users for payment of ticket fare through QR (Quick Response) code for purchasing tickets through Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs).

Through this facility, after entering the journey details, while paying the ticket fare, in addition to existing options, passengers will get two new options i.e., UPI through Paytm and UPI through Freecharge. For making payment through QR code, passengers have to select one of these two options. They will be able to make the payment once the code is displayed on the ATVM screen.

New feature added in ATVMs; passengers can now use any UPI enabled app for payment of
– Journey Ticket
– Platform Ticket
– Renewal of seasonal ticket
– Recharge of smart card

AK Agarwal, General Manager, SR has appealed to rail users to utilise this opportunity for purchasing general tickets by avoiding queues and cash transactions at general booking.
