Varam, a dedicated women’s super-specialty center by MGM Healthcare in Chennai, celebrated its first anniversary recently. VARAM organized a musical evening ‘Being Her’ featuring renowned female artists to honor the life journey of women, from the moment she’s born till she’s well within her senior years.
The musical evening followed a unique concept where songs were chosen to denote every stage of a woman. The whole concert was woven together through a fluid narrative by a presenter who described each stage and why that particular song has been chosen to depict different stages of a women’s life.

The opening act featured National Award winner Uthara Unnikrishnan as she performed a medley of Bharatiyar’s ‘Odi Vilaiyadu Paapa’ and Hakuna Matata which depicted the childhood and pre-teen phase. The next act had Lavita Lobo performing a medley featuring ‘We are the Champions by Queen, Roar – Eye of the Tiger’ by Katie Perry and ‘Good Job’ by Alicia Keys and showcased the teenage phase of women. The next act by Niranjana Ramanan charmed the audiences by performing Love ballads like ‘Netru Iladha Maatram‘ and ‘Teri Ore’ (Hindi) highlighting the youth phase.
Deepika Varadarajan, renowned playback singer performed, Traditional Seetha Kalyanam followed by ‘Maangalyam’ which showcase the marriage phase. It was followed by soulful rendition of ‘Kaalam Idhu Kaalam Idhu’- A beautiful film song that describes the various stages motherhood in a woman’s life by Mahathi S. Prominent Padma Bhushan awardee Aruna Sairam wowed the audiences with A Devi Krithi portraying the evolved stage of a woman’s life. The final act had all the artists come together and give a unique perspective to ‘Acham Acham Illai’ song from the movie ‘Indra.’
