TIRUNELVELI, JUNE 28
iDream Tiruppur Tamizhans defeated the Ruby Trichy Warriors by 4 wickets to register their first win in the 6th season of Shriram Capital Tamil Nadu Premier League in the sixth match held at Sankar Cement’s ground in Tirunelveli on Monday.
Chasing a modest 158 for victory, Tiruppur skipper Anirudha S fell to an absolute cracker of a delivery from Saravana Kumar with just nine runs to his tally, with the other opener Siddarth (7) having his stumps uprooted by the same bowler shortly.
Following the dismissals of both openers, Anand Subramanian (35 off 26 balls) and Maan K Bafna (26 off 28 balls) added 61 runs for the 3rd wicket to help the team recover from the slump. However, both the set batsmen fell in successive overs, tilting the game back to the Trichy Warriors.
With the Tamizhans needing 60 runs off their last six overs and only four wickets remaining, ex-skipper Mohammed. M (29* off 15 balls) and youngster Tushar Raheja (42* off 26 balls) pulled out the fireworks, taking their team across the line. With this victory, the Tamizhans are off to a winning start in the Shriram Capital TNPL 2022 during the current season.
Earlier, Ruby Trichy Warriors scored 157 for six in 20 overs after being put in to bat. Indian cricketer and TN superstar Murali Vijay turned back to his golden days, top-scoring with 34 off 16 balls. Aswin Crist of the Tamizhans took two crucial wickets along with outstanding economical bowling from Mohan Prasath, who only gave 14 runs off his four overs.
After the defeat, Ruby Trichy Warriors captain Rahil Shah said, “We were a 15-20 runs short with the kind of opening we had. We failed to capitalize on the start and kept losing wickets and couldn’t grab hold of all the opportunities that came our way.”
Man of the Match M Mohammed said, “I did not feel the pressure under any circumstances, and I firmly believed that we could win if I took my game until the last ball and I just did that.”
After the win, Tirupur Tamils captain Anirudha said, “I learned a lot from MS Dhoni during my stint at CSK. I have begun to adopt a peaceful attitude in my captaincy, which has helped me come a long way.”
