Gujarat Journalists Union (GJU), the largest and the oldest body of journalists in Gujarat, is celebrating its 60th anniversary on Saturday, July 2, 2022.
The Chief Guest, Honourable Governor of Gujarat Acharya Devvrat, will felicitate 60 senior journalists with Gujarat Gaurav Awards in recognition of their contribution to strengthening the Fourth Pillar of Democracy.
Guests of Honour are Shree Panchgani Akhada Mahamandaleshwar Shri Shri 1008 Respected Kankeshwari Mataji, veteran journalists Padmashri Vishnu Pandya, Padmashri Dr Kumarpal Desai, Padmashri Devendra Patel and Editor-in-Chief of NavGujarat Samay Ajay Umat.

Commenting on this momentous occasion, GJU president B R Prajapati said, “Gujarat Gaurav Awards aims to honour the veteran journalists for their fearless and exemplary writings which enriched the journalism in Gujarat. They are the beacon of hope to aspiring young journalists.”
The function will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 11 am at Dinesh Hall, Income-tax Crossroads, Ashram Road, Ahmedabad.
GJU fights for implementation of Majithia Wage Board Award, social security benefits like PF, Gratuity and ‘One Nation, One Pension’
Under the able guidance of IJU-GJU president BR Prajapati, and Gujarat Mazdoor Sabha secretary and senior advocate Amrish Patel, GJU joint secretary R Manickavasagam and his colleagues from The Indian Express, Ahmedabad have won the gratuity case before the honourable Controlling Authority and Asst Labour Commissioner (Central) under the Payment of Gratuity Act 1972 in March 2021. This was challenged by the IE management before the honourable Deputy Labour Commissioner (Central) which rejected the management’s appeal vide its orders dated May 30, 2022. Now, the management has planned to move the honourable Gujarat HC with an intend to delay the payment.
Another case of non-deduction of PF on variable pay and all allowances except HRA is going on before the competent authority of the EPFO, Regional Office, Ahmedabad.
Acting on the complaint of Gujarat Mazdoor Sabha secretary and senior advocate Amrish Patel, the Labour Department of Gujarat Government had ordered the IE management to implement Majithia Wage Board Award to all staffers viz permanent, contractual and parttime in 2021. The IE has challenged it before the honourable Gujarat HC and the matter will come up for hearing on Tuesday, July 5, 2022.
