- Our mission in life is to make a positive difference, not to prove how smart or right we are.
- We should also learn to let go and just enjoy the moment.
- Set aside two hours every week to think about what you want to do with your life.
- Prudism is about multi-reincarnations. Every time you take a breath, it’s a new gift. So enjoy now, be happy, do good, and find meaning now.
- The first person you need to forgive is yourself. Do what you think is right and do your best. If you fail, if you don’t win, it’s ok.
- If you have a dream, go for it.

In a pep talk to youth in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on Friday, an American author and top-notch coach exhorted them that the Bhagavad Gita is a great resource that has all the answers to get over failures in life. Further, our mission in life is to make a positive difference, not to prove how smart or right we are.
“The Bhagavad Gita is a great resource that has all the answers to get over failures in life. Never become ego attached to the results of what you do. You can never win in this game because you do not have total control over the results and the happiness of your achievements is very momentary, and you will always be hungry for more. So never place value on outcomes,” said Dr Marshall Goldsmith, America’s #1 executive coach (INC Magazine) in business leadership, during an interactive session named – ‘You’th Can Lead – with students, faculty, and staff at the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) on Friday, August 26, 2022.
Dr Goldsmith, who has also authored several best-selling books and travelled to 103 countries in the world to share business leadership lessons, shared some of the key points on life and leadership with students and said, “One of the problems of successful people is they want to prove they are smart and right. But our mission in life is to make a positive difference, not to prove how smart or right we are. You don’t need to prove it to anyone but to yourself. Another natural human tendency is that we always want to win, even if it is a trivial thing/conversation. If it is not worth it, we should learn to let go and just enjoy the moment.”
In response to an audience question about how to get clarity on making decisions in life, Dr Goldsmith said, “It is very important to set aside a time to think for ourselves, but we don’t do that often. Set aside two hours every week to think about what you want to do with your life.”
In response to another question on the purpose of life when everything is temporary, Dr Goldsmith advised students to be in the present moment and said, “Prudism is about multi-reincarnations. Every time you take a breath, it’s a new gift. So enjoy now, be happy, do good, and find meaning now.”
In his concluding remarks, Dr Goldsmith said, “No one in this world is going to be perfect. The first person you need to forgive is yourself. Do what you think is right and do your best. If you fail, if you don’t win, it’s ok. Do not get disappointed. Try again. If you have a dream, go for it.”
