TN sellers received over Rs 7,400 cr worth of orders through GEM portal till today

The Government e-marketing (GeM)  in association with Press information Bureau organized GeM Seller Samvad and media interaction in Chennai at Shastri  Bhawan on Wednesday. The aim of the program was to create awareness about the new features and functionalities of GeM portal among the MSMEs and to facilitate a platform for the sellers to share their experiences and interact with the media. GeM provides tremendous opportunity to seller groups like MSMEs, Women SHGs and Startups to reinforce the Modi government’s commitment of Make in India Initiative.

Vijendra Pandian, IAS, Commissioner of Treasuries & Accounts  Govt of Tamilnadu presided the program. Annadurai Addl DG PIB & Muralidaran, Deputy CEO, GeM, were also present on the occasion.

Presiding the Samvad, Vijayendra Pandian said  that the GeM platform has been operating since 2016 and transactions of more than Rs 3 lakh crore have taken place. He also said that from 2014 till now, Tamil Nadu State Government had done transactions worth Rs 1,108 crore through GeM and over Rs 7,400 crore transactions have been done by sellers in the State of Tamil Nadu across India. Through such vendor discussions, awareness is being created about doing business in various states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar outside Tamil Nadu, and the problems and grievances faced by the vendors and how to solve them were explained here.

He said that small and micro enterprises have got the opportunity to distribute to Central, State Governments and Public Sector Enterprises through Gem Platform. Driving social inclusion, GeM exempted Scheduled castes and Scheduled Tribes from registration at the site.

Addressing the media, Annadurai , Addl DG,  highlighted the advantages of Gem Portal as envisioned by Prime minister. He further appealed to the media that to create awareness about the online portal in rural areas of Tamilnadu so that more and more sellers from Tamil Nadu can join and take advantage of this e-market place.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy CEO, GeM  Muralidharan emphasized the benefits of online portal especially in facilitating the access to the market especially for MSMEs and Startups. Addressing the challenges in the last mile public procurement transaction, Deputy CEO, GeM said, “GeM has joined hands with CSC e-Governance services and postal department to enable inclusivity and participation on GeM”.

He also mentioned how integration of the GeM portal with Udyam Portal which has enabled for real time procurement registration of MSMEs in GeM. He also informed the sellers that helpdesk support is being made available in 12 regional languages, including Tamil.

An interactive session with the sellers was also being organized wherein the sellers shared their experience on how the GeM portal has enabled their business with the state and central government departments to grow and how the portal has opened a market for them across India without any geographical limitation. They also appreciated the transparency, inclusivity, timely payments and ease of doing business offered by the portal removing red-tapism which hampered such government transactions earlier.
