The horrific crane accident on the set of Indian 2 left three people dead and 12 people injured. The incident sent shock waves across the film industries and made people question about safety measures taken by the producers.
Kamal Haasan wrote a letter to Subaskaran, Chairman of Lyca Productions, asking about the insurance and safety measures in place three days after the accident.
Lyca Productions has finally responded to the letter and stated that both Kamal Haasan and director Shankar were aware of the production house’s steps to ensure safety. “It hardly needs reminding that the entire shoot was also under the control and supervision of yourself and the director,” the letter read.
Elaborating more about the group insurance, the production house said, “We have invested substantial sums towards the production of the film, so you will appreciate that we have not compromised on health and safety. As regards the safety measures at our end, we left no stone unturned.”
Lyca Productions also stressed on the fact that such incidents should be “dealt with in the spirit of collective responsibility and rectification.” They also suggested everyone put aside their differences and work together as a team.
“Let us all work together and pray that the almighty gives all strength to the bereaved family members to overcome the unfortunate loss of their loved ones,” the letter said.
Subaskaran of Lyca Productions said that he will take care of all the medical expenses and also announced Rs. 2 crore compensation to the deceased and the injured in unfortunate accident that took place on February 19.
