In a show of solidarity, 11,000 members belonging to 84 sub-castes of the Brahmin community in Gujarat partook community meals or Brahma Choryasi held at Sri Bhagwat Vidyapeeth Sola here on Sunday. The community meal programme was preceded by Vedic chanting.
Later, the representative of Param Pujya Anantashree Vibhushit Dwarka Sharda Pithadhiswar Jagatguru Sri Shankaracharya, Swamishri Sadananda Saraswatiji Maharaj Shri Narayananandji has made a clarion call for unity among all Brahmins.
Param Pujya Anantashree Vibhushit said, “Brahm Choryasi is a tradition that has been going on for many years. The purpose of this Brahm Bhojan is to make the next generation aware of its significance and to unite all Brahmins for a common cause. According to the scriptures a host who feeds Brahmins is blessed with God’s infinite grace.”
11 thousand Brahmins in their traditional attire sat in a row and ate together. Rishikumars and Brahmin leaders from various schools across the state joined the program together. Leaders of all major political parties, including the BJP and Congress, were also present in this ceremony.
On this occasion, BJP leader Yagnesh Dave, also a Brahmin, lamented that “Brahmins are being neglected in some places. Every society can unite for everyone, if every society works together, why not Brahmin society too? Brahmo Samaj is also eating together today. Forgetting the differences between big and small and forgetting the differences of political parties, everyone sat together and had food.”
