The number of COVID-19 cases in Gujarat rose by 1,120 to 78,783 on Sunday, the state health department said.
With 20 more patients succumbing to the infection, including eight in Surat, the cumulative toll went up to 2,787 in the state, it said.
A total of 959 patients were discharged in the day, taking the number of recoveries to 61,496, the department said.
Gujarat is now left with 14,500 active cases, out of which the condition of 82 patients is critical, the department said.
At 228, Surat reported the highest number of cases in the state, followed by 164 cases in Ahmedabad, and 108 in Vadodara.
Besides Surat, which reported eight fatalities, four deaths were reported from Ahmedabad, two each in Bhavnagar and Morbi, and one each in Gir Somnath, Kutch, Patan, and Vadodara, the department said.
Among other districts, Rajkot reported 99 cases, Jamnagar 58, Panchmahal 45, Bhavnagar 38, Junagadh 34, Kutch 31, Bharuch 30, Gandhinagar 29, Dahod 26, Amreli 25, Mehsana 22, Banaskantha 19, Devbhumi Dwarka and Gir Somnath 16 each, etc, it said.
The state tested 50,560 samples in the last 24 hours, which comes at the rate of 777.84 tests per day per million, it said.
A total of 13,12,824 samples have been tested so far in the state, it said.
Gujarat COVID-19 figures are as follows: Positive cases 78,783, new cases 1,120, deaths 2,787, discharged 61,496, active cases 14,500 and people tested so far 13,12,824.
Surat tally rises by 228 to 17,490; 8 die
The COVID-19 case tally in Surat district rose by 228, the highest in Gujarat on Sunday, to 17,490, the state health department said.
At 8, the district also reported the highest number of fatalities in the state.
The cumulative death toll in the district now stands at 737, it said.
With 336 patients getting discharged, which is also the highest in the state, the number of recoveries in the district rose to 13,650 on Sunday, it said.
Of the 228 new cases, Surat city reported 159 cases while rural areas added 69 cases, an official release said.
Surat city has so far reported 13,927 cases while 3,563 cases have been reported from rural areas, it said.
Of the 737 fatalities reported so far in the district, Surat city accounts for 573 deaths while 164 deaths have occurred in rural areas, district health officials said.
Katargam zone in Surat city reported 30 new COVID-19 cases in the day, taking the total case count to 2,795, the highest among all zones under the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The SMC said it had surveyed 7.5 lakh people while 25,237 people are in quarantine.
A total of 4,690 people remain quarantined in rural areas, officials said.
Ahmedabad cases go past 29,000; four die
The tally of COVID-19 cases in Ahmedabad district crossed the 29,000-mark and rose to 29,004 on Sunday with the addition of 164 patients, the Gujarat health department said.

With four deaths, the toll went up to 1,659, it said.
The number of recoveries rose to 23,882 with 174 more patients being discharged in the day, the department said.
Of the 164 new cases, 149 were reported from Ahmedabad city while 15 patients were found in rural areas.
All the four deaths were reported from the city, the department added.
Of the 29,004 cases, 27,486 cases have been reported from Ahmedabad city and 1,518 cases from rural areas.
At 378, Dholka taluka has so far reported the highest number of cases, followed by Sanand (350 cases) and Daskroi (251 cases), besides other areas.
Ahmedabad district health department has said it had surveyed 97,285 people in various talukas so far and sanitised 4,80,904 houses in different villages.
A total of 4,926 people are under home quarantine in rural parts, the department said.
The district panchayat has also conducted health screening of 1,73,391 people and issued them medical certificates, it said.
