NE NEWS SERVICE

NEW DELH, OCT 27

Aiming to ward off the growing menace of digital arrests, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated ‘stop, think, and take action’ mantra to all and to not get panic. No government agencies give such threats over the phone nor do they demand money, he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said these while addressing the 115th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ a radio programme where he addresses the people of India. The popular radio show has recently completed ten years.

“…Under digital arrest fraud, callers portray themselves as police, CBI, RBI or narcotics officials, and they confidently talk. People asked me to talk about this in Mann Ki Baat. You need to understand this. The first step is your personal information. They collect all your personal information. 2nd Step is the atmosphere of fear. They will scare you so much that you won’t even be able to think. Step 3- The time pressure…Victims of digital arrest are from all sections and ages. Many people have lost lakhs of their hard-earned money. If you ever get a call like this, don’t be afraid. You should know that no investigating agency does such an interrogation over the phone or video call,” PM Modi said in the radio show.

He asked the masses to record such attempts.

“There are 3 steps of digital security- stop, think, and take action. If possible, take a screenshot and do the recording. No government agencies give such threats over the phone nor do they demand money,” he added.

Modi asked people to dial 1930 to connect with the national cyber helpline. He said such attempts should also be reported to the police.

“Friends, I’ll reiterate that there is no system like digital arrest in the law, this is just a fraud, deceit, it is a lie, a gang of criminals and those who are doing this are enemies of society. To deal with the fraud that is going on in the name of digital arrest, all the investigative agencies are working together with the state governments,” the PM said.

He further added that , “For synchronization among these agencies, a National Cyber Co-ordination Centre has been set up. Thousands of such fraudulent video calling IDs have been blocked by the agencies. Lakhs of SIM cards, mobile phones and bank accounts have also been blocked. Agencies are doing their job, but for protection from scams in the name of digital arrest, it is very important that everyone is aware, every citizen is aware. Those who are victims of this kind of cyber fraud should let as many people as possible know about it. You can use #SafeDigitalIndia for awareness.”

I would also like to urge schools and colleges to involve students in the campaign against cyber scams. We can fight this challenge only with the collective efforts in society.

National level celebration of Birsa Munda, Sardar Patel’s 150th anniversary

PM Modi also mentioned Sardar Patel and Birsa Munda and highlighted their farsightedness and as the year marks their 150th anniversary, he said, “The country has decided to celebrate their 150th birth anniversary at national level.” The PM said that both these great souls faced different challenges but their vision was the same: Unity of the country.

He further said, “On the 15th of November last year, I went to Ulihatu village in Jharkhand, the birthplace of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, on his birth anniversary. This visit had a great impact on me. I am the first Prime Minister of the country who has had the privilege of touching my forehead to the soil of this holy land.”

Resolve to make India global animation powerhouse

The PM also is well-known for introducing new ideas for India’s growth and emphasises the scope of the Indian rising animation industry. He said, “You might have noticed that from the Smartphone to the cinema screen, gaming console to virtual reality, animation is omnipresent. India is on the way to ushering in a new revolution in the world of animation.”

He said that the animation sector has donned the form of an industry that is powering other dependent industries. Regarding World Animation Day, he said “On the 28th of October i.e. tomorrow, ‘World Animation Day’ will also be celebrated. Let us take the resolve of making India a global animation powerhouse.”
