The Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) celebrated its 2nd स्थापना दिवस (Sthapana Divas) on Saturday, marking 16 years since its foundation. The event occurred at the Jasubhai Memorial Auditorium, where Gaurav Sharma, Vice President – IBM Service Partners, was the Chief Guest. The celebrations featured speeches from Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Gandhinagar, and the Chief Guest and a series of cultural performances by current students.
The institute, known for its national repute, has consistently worked towards building a community of scientists and engineers who have excelled in their fields and contributed to nation-building. The स्थापना दिवस (Sthapana Divas) served as an occasion to honor this journey, bringing together students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders to reflect on 16 years of dedication and growth.
In his inspiring speech, Chief Guest Gaurav Sharma said, “The Stapana Divas is not merely a celebration but a reminder of the vision and dedication of those who established IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN). Over the past 16 years, IITGN has made remarkable progress and is now among the top engineering institutions in India, as per the NIRF ranking 2023.”
The Chief Guest praised the professors, staff, and students for their contributions and highlighted new programs, such as BTech, MTech, and PhD in Circuit Design and Manufacturing Technology, which align with the nation’s aspirations and promise to elevate the institute’s global standing. They also acknowledged the achievements of students and alumni, emphasizing their roles as future leaders and innovators, and concluded by recognizing the invaluable contributions of teachers in nurturing the institute’s growth and development.
Before the Chief Guest’s address, Professor Rajat Moona, Director, IIT Gandhinagar, shared his thoughts with the community on Stapana Divas and celebrated the foundation, growth, and achievements of IIT Gandhinagar (IITGN) over the past 16 years.
Professor Rajat Moona said, “From its modest beginning with 90 students in 2009, IITGN has grown to a vibrant community of over 2,800 students, establishing itself as a hub of innovation and excellence. The institute’s strong commitment to academic rigor, research, and community engagement will inspire future generations and contribute to societal development. Looking ahead to a “Vikasit Bharath 2047,” IITGN remains dedicated to fostering leaders who create positive change.”
The Director reflected on the transformative power of education at IITGN, which aims to foster creativity, critical thinking, and social responsibility. The speech highlighted the remarkable journey of the institute, recognizing the contributions of faculty, students, alumni, and the community in technology, research, entrepreneurship, and social outreach. The Director underscored the pivotal role of faculty in inspiring and equipping students with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. He celebrated the students as the institution’s heart, whose passion for learning and pursuit of knowledge uplift IITGN’s culture of excellence.
