AHMEDABAD, JUNE 17

The curtains came down on the second edition of the Chiripal Cricket Premier League (CPL) on a spirited note, as the final match between Heritage City Titans and Karnavati Kings was called off due to unrelenting rain at the SGVP Grounds, Ahmedabad on Saturday – 14 June, 2025. With just the first innings completed — where Karnavati Kings posted a competitive 167 for 6 in 20 overs — the weather gods forced an early end, and both teams were declared joint winners, splitting the Rs 7.5 lakh championship prize equally.

Beginning 31 May, CPL 2025 stood out for its exceptional energy, performance, and community engagement over a three-week run. Some 18 matches were scheduled, including 15 league games, two semi-finals, and the grand final, with two matches washed out due to unfavourable weather conditions.

Six teams namely, Sabarmati Strikers, Gandhinagar Lions, Ahmedabad Arrows, Narmada Navigators, Heritage City Titans, and Karnavati Kings compete with one another during the tournament, showcasing a mix of emerging and seasoned talent.

Priyesh Patel of Narmada Navigators shone the brightest with 272 runs in 5 matches, earning him the Man of the Series title and a cash prize of Rs 51,000, while Kripal Barad of Heritage City Titans walked away with the Purple Cap for taking 13 wickets with an impressive economy rate. His fellow teammate Shen Patel also bagged 13 wickets, but Kripal edged ahead in efficiency.

Both highest run-scorer and top wicket-taker were awarded Rs 75,000 each, with every Man of the Match across fixtures receiving Rs 10,000 as a prize.

Sharing his thoughts about the tournament, Narhari Amin, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) and former President of the Gujarat Cricket Association, said, “CPL 2025 has proved that Gujarat has both the infrastructure and passion to run a high-calibre league. Ronak and Vansh Chiripal have not only brought professional polish to grassroots cricket but also created a platform to showcase the spectacular cricketing talent from Gujarat. Going forward, I would like to see younger age categories like under-14 and under-16 in future editions, so we can nurture raw talent early. I congratulate all the players and organisers for making Season 2 a huge success.”

Echoing the sentiment, Hitesh Patel, Former Secretary, GCA, added, “This season, we raised the bar with structured match analytics, official scoring systems, and professional umpiring support through GCA. Rain may have stopped the final match, but it couldn’t dampen the spirit of this league. CPL is fast becoming a landmark sporting event in Gujarat.”

World Blood Donor Day

Adding a meaningful social layer to the event, a blood donation camp was organised on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day in collaboration with Jansahayak Trust, Hiramani Arogyadham, Indian Red Cross Society, and the Chiripal Group. Held at SGVP Gurukul, the initiative saw participation from 65 donors, including public representatives, school officials, doctors, and CPL organisers, underscoring the tournament’s commitment to community wellbeing.

Speaking on the journey, Ronak Chiripal, Promoter, Chiripal Group and Co-founder of CPL, said, “CPL was envisioned as a professional yet inclusive platform for Gujarat’s cricketing talent. From a competitive structure to community engagement, we are proud of how Season 2 unfolded. Our heartfelt thanks to the Gujarat Cricket Association, sponsors, players, and the spirited cricket fans. We’re excited for what’s ahead — this is just the beginning.”

CPL 2025 has firmly set the stage for its next season — promising greater action, bigger opportunities, and broader impact.
