The 1st edition of Indian Silk Gallery Expo began in Chennai on Wednesday. The Expo is being organized to honour and encourage the pride and livelihood of handloom weavers from across the country.
Inaugurating the expo, retired IAS Officer M Sathiyavathi appealed Chennai Natural Fibre lovers to take advantage of buying pure products to help and encouraging weavers and artisans who have displayed the wonder weaves from natural fibre products for this coming Shravana Masam and Wedding Seasons, she added.
Talking to reporters, the official said that the central government is organizing such exhibitions across India round the year at all important cities to promote handloom textile.
Weavers from the weaving clusters of 14 states have put up 35 stalls at Kamadhenu Kalyana Mandapam, opposite to Mylapore Club, Luz Church Road, Mylapore, said the organisers.
With a view to educate silk consumers, Indian Silk Gallery is organising mega Pure Natural Fibre Concept and first-of-its-kind introducing Silk Cotton, Linen products from all manufacturing/weaving clusters of India.
The expo will be an ideal platform for natural fibre-lovers to shop their choice of all natural fiber products at one roof for upcoming Festivals and Wedding Season, the organisers added.
The expo will be open from July 19 to July 24 and it will be open from 11 am to 8.00 pm.
