Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has ensured the welfare of 68.80 lakh NFSA card holding families and 61 lakh APL-1 card holding families amidst lockdown by providing free food grains since April 2020, a senior official said.
At present, NFSA cardholders in Gujarat (except for Ahmedabad) are availing free food grains trough the state government and Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. 55 lakh families will reap its benefits. The Chief Minister has decided to commence free food grain distribution for 3.32 lakh NFSA cardholders in Ahmedabad.
Ashwani Kumar, Secretary to the CM said, “Free food grain distribution for 3.32 lakh NFSA cardholders in Ahmedabad will begin on Wednesday, May 27 to Saturday, June 6. Under this, the cardholders will avail of food grains as sanctioned by the government. In addition to that, they will also avail 3.5 kg wheat and 1.5 kg rice per person and 1 kg pulses per card under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana.”
Cardholders have been divided based on the last digit of their ration card. The division is as under:

Those who are unable avail the grains on the designated dates due to unavoidable circumstances can avail them on 7th June 2020.
4.60 lakh APL-1 cardholders in Ahmedabad have availed the benefits of free food grain distribution for the month of May 2020.
The grain distribution is done keeping in mind the necessary safety protocols. Cardholders are instructed to wear masks and practice social distancing while availing grains.
Rise in sale of agri produce amidst lockdown 4.0
Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Sunday announced that 66.49 lkah quintals of grains have been sold at the APMCs since the day they were restarted on April 15, a senior official said.
Ashwani Kumar, secretary to the chief minister, said, “66,49,254 quintals of grains have been sold by the farmers to date in the APMCs. A large part of this comprises 19,37, 161 quintals of wheat, 14,66,492 quintals of castor, 3,53,182 quintals of cottonseed, 1,83,794 quintals of tobacco and 2,85,197 quintals of gram.”
The purchase of agri produce is done keeping in mind the necessary safety protocols. At the same time, everyone undergoes thermal screening as well.
The Gujarat State Civil Supplies Corporation (GSCSC) has purchased 23,437 metric tons of wheat and 11,583 metric tons of tuar dal till date. GUJCOMSOL has purchased 73,574 metric tons of gram and 12,213 metric tons of mustard, Kumar added.
