The 8th World Tamils Economic Conference and Global Economic Summit 2021 will be held in Chennai from December 27 to 29, said its Convenor V R S Sampath here on Saturday.
Addressing the media, Dr Sampath said that the aim of the conference is to create a platform to enable networking of Global Tamil Entrepreneurs, business leaders, professionals, academicians, chambers of commerce etc.
As the fear of coronavirus surfacing the world, scores of world Tamil leaders would address the conference on virtual mode. (Zoom ID: 81781831716 and Pass Code is 794561.)
Replying to a query, Dr Sampath said that though the WTEC did not record the joint ventures or MoUs signed during the previous conference held in Puducherry. However, the then Chief Minister of the Union Territory V Narayanasamy had quoted that Puducherry had attracted Rs. 1200-crore investment during conference held in the union territory, he added.
The 8th WTEC would be addressed by State Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan, Minister for Industries Thangam Thennarasu and Rural Development Minister Anbarasu.
Former President of Guyana Dr Moses Veerasamy Nagamootoo, former acting President of Mauritius Dr Paramasivam Pillai Vyapoory, former South Africa Minister Ravi Pillay among others would address the conference virtually.
WTEC is being organised jointly by the Madras Development Society and the World Tamils Economic Foundation.

Veteran industrialist and Chevalier V G Santhosam and former High Court Judge Justice Vallinayagam, Founder and Chairman of Million Women and TN State Secretary of Pradhan Mantri Jan Kalyankari Yojana (Under the Office of the Prime Minister, New Delhi) A Sasikala, Kamal Hasan, Secretary of Yadhava Chambers of Commerce were also present.
As mark of respect to the departed souls Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat , his wife and 11 others, a minute silence was observed during the media conference.
