Around 30 Congress workers were detained in Rajkot while protesting on Monday against price rise.

Phase 2 of the district level Jan Jagran Abhiyan will resume a month later on the 15th of June.

The extensive campaign will highlight economic issues- especially unemployment & price rise that is destroying livelihoods.

Several protesters were seen wearing garlands made of vegetables, while others carried cutouts of gas cylinders and fuel dispensers and placards with slogans against the ruling BJP as well as price rise.

“The protest was led by the party’s Rajkot city president Arjun Katariya. It also included members of the women’s wing. Each garland of vegetables may have cost Rs 500 going by the way prices for essential items are skyrocketing,” said a Congress functionary.

“The protest was organised to wake up the BJP government, which is sleeping while people are distressed. Everything from cooking gas cylinders, to clothes, urea is now costlier,” Katariya said.

A Pradyumna Nagar police station official said 30 Congress workers were detained, including Katariya and two women.
