The National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) provided Rs 27,992 crore in 2019-20 for the execution of various projects in Andhra Pradesh, a top official said.
In the midst of an ongoing pandemic, NABARD has stepped into its 39th year of formation on July 12, 2020, even as it has made path-breaking contributions in the development of Andhra Pradesh in the last few years.
Sudhir Kumar Jannawar, Chief General Manager, NABARD, AP, said, “During the year 2019-20, loans disbursed by Andhra Pradesh Regional Office of NABARD reached an all-time high of Rs 27,992 crore, including 20,515 crore refinance support extended to banks in the State for supporting their short-term crop loans and long-term agriculture. NABARD also disbursed more than Rs 2000 crore for implementation of infrastructure projects in the State as per the priorities of the State Government, which includes Polavaram Project and Chintalapudi Lift Irrigation Project. NABARD also extended support of more than Rs.4000 crore to AP State Civil Supplies Corporation for paddy procurement operations.”
To meet the liquidity needs of the RRBs and Cooperative Banks in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, Rs.2,500 crore was released under the Special Liquidity Facility, he said. Sudhir Kumar further said that during 2019-20, NABARD, Andhra Pradesh Regional Office, has supported many promotional and developmental programmes to the tune of Rs.30 crore. 100 Farmer Producer Organizations and 50 tribal development projects were supported by NABARD so far.
Sudhir Kumar thanked the Government of Andhra Pradesh for signing an MoU in the presence of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and indicated that this will be enabling NABARD to support infrastructure projects in the Fisheries Sector. He also pledged NABARD’s continued support for the holistic development of Andhra Pradesh, especially in the wake of COVID19 pandemic.
Amidst the pandemic, the Bank commemorated its 39th Foundation Day on Sunday, differently by organizing a ‘Digital Choupal’, an online event that showcased seven projects it successfully implemented across the country and made the voices of the beneficiaries of these projects heard by the entire nation. The event was hosted on YouTube and Facebook on Monday.
In a brief event at its Andhra Pradesh Regional Office, following all the social distancing norms, Sudhir Kumar exhorted the staff of NABARD to rededicate themselves to the Development Bank’s objective of fostering rural prosperity in the country, by working in close coordination with all its stakeholders, including the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
