Fifty years in the tea trade—and now a fresh brew of ideas for the future.
The Gujarat Tea Traders Association (GTTA) is set to mark the completion of five decades with a two-day Golden Jubilee celebration at the Kashtabhanjan Dev Hanumanji Temple, Salangpur Dham, Botad district, on October 1 and 2, 2026, bringing together the state’s tea-trading community and stakeholders from across the country.
The landmark celebration is being positioned not merely as an anniversary event, but as a collective reflection on the 50-year journey of Gujarat’s tea-trading fraternity, its institutional evolution and the challenges and opportunities awaiting the industry.
Around 700 tea-trader members from across Gujarat are expected to participate, along with leading traders and brokers from Assam and Kolkata, producers and other industry stakeholders from South India. Representatives and office-bearers associated with the tea industry, including those connected with the Siliguri region and the Tea Board of India, are also expected to attend.
From five decades of trust to the next chapter
The Golden Jubilee, according to the association, will celebrate more than an organisational milestone. It will recognise five decades of trust, unity, collective struggle and progress among traders connected with Gujarat’s tea business.
Former presidents and past honorary ministers/office-bearers of the association will be specially felicitated during the celebrations, with their contributions to the growth of the organisation being remembered.
The gathering will also provide a platform for members of Gujarat’s tea-trading community to examine the current tea-market landscape, changing business patterns, new opportunities, evolving consumer preferences and the future direction of the industry.
Tea trade turns the spotlight on tomorrow
With the tea market undergoing continuous change, the association plans to use the occasion for discussion on the challenges confronting the industry and possible pathways to make Gujarat’s tea trade stronger and more competitive in the years ahead.
The Golden Jubilee deliberations are expected to focus on strengthening the tea-trading ecosystem, identifying emerging opportunities and building a more resilient business environment for traders.
The association sees the two-day programme as an opportunity to bring the fraternity onto a common platform and initiate a wider exchange of ideas on the future of tea trade.
Two days, a packed celebration
The October 1 programme will feature the welcome of guests, a cultural programme and a traditional Dayro, among other events.
The October 2 schedule will include the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, welcome of dignitaries, inspirational addresses, felicitation of invited guests, Golden Jubilee celebrations, recognition of former presidents and honorary office-bearers, a general meeting, distribution of mementoes and a fellowship gathering.
A major organisational announcement will also form part of the historic occasion, with the new executive body of the Gujarat Tea Traders Association for 2026–28 scheduled to be announced.
A milestone—and a springboard
For GTTA, the Golden Jubilee is ultimately about connecting the past with the future.
The association says the principal objective of the two-day celebration is to bring Gujarat’s tea traders together, strengthen mutual relationships, deliberate on the future of the tea industry and celebrate the organisation’s five-decade institutional journey with pride.
As the tea-trading fraternity gathers at Salangpur, the message from the association is less about looking back at 50 years and more about asking what the next 50 years of Gujarat’s tea trade should look like.
