Tamil Nadu on Wednesday reported 5,447 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally to 6,35,855 while the death toll mounted to 9,984 with 67 more fatalities.
The active cases stood at 45,135 with 5,524 patients getting discharged from various hospitals and cumulatively, 5,80,736 people have got cured. Of the fresh infections, Chennai shared 1,369, Coimbatore 473, and Chengelpet 324 while the others were scattered over the state, a health department bulletin said.
Out of the total 6.35 lakh plus cases, the state capital’s tally stood at 1,76,779 and the adjoining districts of Chengelpet and Tiruvallur, 38,103 and 33,977 respectively.
Those dead include two men aged 92 and 40 and in total 61 had co-morbidities and six no chronic illnesses. The death count of 9,984, included Chennai”s 3,336, Chengelpet 579 and Tiruvallur 570. As many as 93,242 samples were tested (RT-PCR) and in total 79,57,106 specimens have been examined in the 190 COVID labs of Tamil Nadu.
