The Department of Speech & Hearing, MCHP, MAHE has commemorated World Hearing Day in the first week of March with support from Rotary Club, Ambalpady, a release said.
Based on the theme put forward by World Health Organization (WHO) that is “Hearing care for all – Screen – Rehabilitate- Communicate”, the department took an initiative by organizing a telehearing screening and online questionnaire survey for the cause from March 1-6.
Focused on creating awareness regarding hearing, its conservation, hearing loss, and its effects, information about seeking professional was made available through social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram & YouTube were used and informative flyers, posters, videos, celebrity message videos for the public. The department had also conducted competitions for students to increase awareness on the theme -collage making and vlog making competitions. The inaugural event was held on March 4 at Sharadha Hall, MCHP.
The programme was inaugurated by Chief Guest Dr. Potti Laxmi Narayana Gangadhara Rao (Dr PLNG Rao) Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences), MAHE, Manipal, along with Guest of honour Ganesh Kumar Mattu, President Rotary Club of Ambalpady, and District Chairman Rotary Youth Exchange Khaleel Ahmed by releasing a public awareness documentary titled “Shrutham” which was prepared by Students of Dept. Of Speech and Hearing Manipal.
The programme was conducted in the presence of Dr.Arun Maiya, Dean MCHP, Dr Sabu KM and Dr Krishna Y Associate Deans MCHP, Dr.Usha HOD, Speech & Hearing, Dr Archana.G & Bhargavi P.G, Convenors. All in all, the department put forward in making this event a success with an aim of social awareness and welfare.
