Following several incidents of people getting injured by dangling manja threads (during use by kite flyers), police said between Saturday and Sunday, “55 cases were registered, 55 people arrested, 186 kites and 51 spools were seized,” in police station limits falling under north Chennai.
The manja thread use was banned by police after several mishaps – some which were even fatal- and authorities had warned invocation of Goondas Act against those making and selling manja thread in May this year.
“Action would be taken against those involved in illegal making of manja thread and those flying kites using it.”
