From classroom concepts to nation-building ambitions
How can engineering education help build a sustainable India while strengthening the country’s technological capabilities? This question resonated at the 59th Engineers’ Day celebration in Siddhpur, where professional engineers, academicians and students came together to celebrate innovation, technical excellence and the role of engineering in nation-building.
The event, held at Gokul Global University on September 17, marked the first time the Institution of Engineers (India) – Gujarat State Centre jointly organised the Engineers’ Day celebration across North Gujarat in collaboration with the university’s Faculty of Engineering.
Themed “Engineering Excellence for a Sustainable and Technologically Sovereign India”, the celebration brought together engineering professionals, faculty members, students and other dignitaries at the university’s seminar hall.
Engineers’ Day is observed annually to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, whose contributions to engineering and nation-building continue to inspire generations.
Rajput calls on young engineers to shape Viksit Bharat
Chief Guest Balwantsinh Rajput, President of Gokul Global University, delivered a special address highlighting engineering’s role in promoting sustainable development and strengthening India’s technological capabilities.
He encouraged young engineers to contribute actively to nation-building and play a meaningful role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Viksit Bharat by 2047”.
Rajput emphasised innovation, dedication, technical excellence and responsibility among young engineers as important elements in shaping a developed and technologically advanced India.
Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Rao, Provost, Gokul Global University, highlighted the importance of engineering education and its contribution to national development. He underlined the role of educational institutions in nurturing skilled, innovative and responsible engineers capable of contributing to the country’s technological progress.
Engineering leaders underline excellence and innovation
Er. M. D. Patel, FIE, Hon. Chairman, IEI Gujarat State Centre, and Special Secretary, Irrigation Department, Government of Gujarat, and Er. J. A. Gandhi, MIE, Council Member, IEI Gujarat State Centre, and Special Secretary, Roads & Buildings Department, Government of Gujarat, delivered addresses emphasising engineering excellence, innovation and technological development.
Dr. Vipul M. Dabhi, Dean (Administration), Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Dilipkumar S. Patel, Dean (Academic), welcomed the dignitaries and guests and extended greetings on behalf of the university.
The programme began with the arrival of dignitaries, invocation, welcome addresses and ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
Student innovations take centre stage
Following the formal proceedings, dignitaries and participants visited the poster and model presentation area, where students displayed engineering-related projects and ideas.
The presentations offered students an opportunity to demonstrate their creativity, technical knowledge and innovative thinking, while providing a platform for interaction between students, academicians and engineering professionals.
The event also recognised the contributions of engineers and sought to inspire students and young professionals towards creativity, innovation and excellence in the field.
Collaboration strengthens engineering education in North Gujarat
The first-time joint celebration by IEI Gujarat State Centre and the Faculty of Engineering, Gokul Global University, marked a step towards strengthening collaboration between professional engineering bodies and academic institutions across North Gujarat.
The programme was organised with the support and guidance of university President Balwantsinh Rajput, Provost Prof. (Dr.) M. S. Rao and Registrar Dr. Chetansinh Vaghela.
Dr. Bhargav P. Majmundar, Associate Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, and Mohitkumar Rami, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Engineering, coordinated the programme.
Er. Himanshu Shah, Secretary, IEI Gujarat State Centre, proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, university leadership, faculty members, engineers, students and all those who contributed to the celebration. The formal programme concluded with the National Anthem.
The celebration reaffirmed the importance of engineering excellence, sustainable development and technological advancement, while encouraging young engineers and students to contribute to nation-building and India’s development aspirations for 2047.
