The Indian Coast Guard has apprehended one Sri Lankan fishing boat along with six crew on Monday for poaching in Indian Waters near International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
While patrolling by ICGS Ameya, a Sri Lankan Fishing Boat was sighted in Indian Waters near International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL). Upon closing the boat, it was observed that the fishing boat was fishing on the Indian side of IMBL.
The illegal fishing in the Indian Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) by the Sri Lankan fishing boat is in violation of the Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981.
The boat along with six crew has been handed over to Nagapattinam Marine Police Station for further Investigation. Indian Coast Guard along with stakeholders are maintaining high alert along the maritime boundary with Sri Lanka.
