- Spirit of unity can be encouraged through sports, says Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay

Gujarat DGP Vikas Sahay inaugurated the 72nd All India Police Aquatics and Cross Country Championship at The Sports Authority of India Gandhinagar on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, DGP Shri Vikas Sahay said, “The responsibility of the state or central police force is internal security. For which the most important theme is the spirit of unity and harmony. The spirit of unity can be encouraged through sports. Also, when we work together for internal security in the spirit of unity and harmony, the result is different.”
He also said that the purpose of this championship is to promote physical fitness, teamwork and friendship among the police personnel.
Sahay appealed to the players from different states who came to Gujarat to visit the tourist spots of the state.

More than 704 police personnel are participating in this championship in a total of 27 teams. The States of Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal and The Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are participating in the event. 18 teams of state police and 09 teams of Central Armed Police Forces are participating in the championship. The championship features 20 events in the aquatic, including swimming, diving and water polo.
Rajiv Ahir, Additional Director, IB; Vitul Kumar and Ravideep Singh Sahi, ADG, South Zone, The CRPF was present.

A march past and a cultural programme were also organised by the teams participating in the opening ceremony.
Various competitions of the championship such as aquatics events will be held from March 24, 2025 to March 28, 2025, at the Sports Authority of India at Gandhinagar and SVP Stadium Swimming Pool in Ahmedabad. The group events will be held at CRPF, Gandhinagar on March 26, 2025.
