As a part of the 73rd Army Day Celebrations, the Vadodara Military Garrison of the Indian Army organised a felicitation ceremony at Station HQ Vadodara on Friday to felicitate war widows and disabled veterans, a release said.
Cheques and gifts were handed over by the Station Commander Brigadier Sanjog Negi to war widows and veterans of Dang, Navsari, Panchmahal, and Mahisagar districts in the Central Gujarat region. The Station Commander expressed gratitude on behalf of the Indian Army for the sacrifices made by soldiers and war widows, the release added.
Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year, in recognition of taking over by Field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief on January 15, 1949. Army Day marks a day to salute and honour the valiant soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect the country and its citizens.
