Southern Railway conducted various events to mark the celebration of the 75th Independence Day on Sunday at the Railway Stadium, Perambur, Chennai, says a release.
In the morning, John Thomas, General Manager, Southern Railway hoisted the National Flag in the presence of Birendra Kumar, Principal Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, and took the salute at the RPF parade comprising RPF contingents including Women Personnel and St John’s Ambulance Brigade.
BG Mallya, Additional General Manager, Principal Heads of Departments, Dr Bina John, President of Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation, other officers and Staff, Union representatives, and family members of Officers and staff of Southern Railway also attended the celebrations.
John Thomas, General Manager who is also the Patron of Southern Railway Sports Association inaugurated a boxing ring and football ground at Perambur Railway Stadium in the presence of BG Mallya, Additional General Manager, VG.Bhooma, Senior Dy.General Manager, Southern Railway and President, Southern Railway Sports Association, other Officers, Staff and Sportspersons.
A host of facilities were inaugurated by General Manager at Railway Hospital, Perambur. He dedicated one oxygen generator plant with a capacity of 200 Litres per minute commissioned at a cost of Rs.50 lakh. Apart from this, Two-wheeler Parking facility for employees, Independence Day Park, Modern Academic Seminar Hall for DNB postgraduate students and a user-friendly Layout Map were also inaugurated at Perambur Railway Hospital.
Meanwhile, the 75th Independence Day was celebrated by various wings of Southern Railway with patriotic zeal and enthusiasm.
Ganesh, Divisional Railway Manager, Chennai hoisted the National Flag at NGO Annexe, Chennai Division and accepted the Guard of Honour. K. Raveendra Babu, Chief Administrative Officer/Construction/Egmore hoisted the flag at the Office of Southern Railway Construction Unit at Chennai Egmore and accepted the Guard of Honour.
Ravindra Babu, Chief Workshop Manager, Perambur Carriage & Wagon Workshop hoisted the National Flag and accepted the Guard of Honour (combined function for Perambur C&W and Loco Workshops). Dr.S.K. Panday, Member (Technical) hoisted the National Flag at Railway Claims Tribunal, Chennai and accepted the Guard of Honour.
Sameer Dighe, Chief Project Director hoisted the National Flag at the Office of Central Organisation for Railway Electrification at Chennai Egmore and accepted the Guard of Honour. Dr.Bina John, President, Southern Railway Women’s Headquarters Organisation (SRWHO) hoisted the National flag at ‘Ashraya’, a school for specially challenged children run by SRWHO, at Egmore in Chennai.
Bharathidasan Scout Group and Kasthuribai Guide Group Katpadi Central District Southern Railway State Bharath Scouts and Guides Celebrated 75th Independence Day at Railway Offices in Katpadi station. Later, masks and Kabasura Kudineer were distributed to the passengers and general public by Scouts volunteers.
