The 78th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervour at the office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, TN & Puducherry at the campus of the Income Tax, Chennai on Thursday.

Sunil Mathur, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry hoists national flag in the presence of retired officials and Senior Officers and family members of the Income Tax.
Addressing after hoisting the national flag, Sunil Mathur, IRS, Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax said we should express our gratitude to the millions of our forefathers who fought against the British Colonial power and sacrificed their lives to earn this freedom to us.
Before the first war of independence of 1857, we had freedom fighters like Veeran Alugumuthu Kone, Rani Velu Nachiyar, Marudhu brothers and Veera Pandia Kattabomman, who aroused public consciousness against the British rule and gave their lives in the pursuit of defending their territories.
During the late 19th century and early 20th century, we have the freedom fighters like Vanchinathan, Tiruppur Kumaran, V.O. Chidambaram and Mahakavi Subramania Bharathiyar, who were awakened the spirits of youth and every common man to participate in the freedom struggle by their activities and patriotic songs towards independence. On this day we should respect our armed and police forces who work day and night to secure our borders and maintain law and order within our country.
Further, he expressed that having achieved political freedom and it is out next task to provide economic freedom to our country. Today we are the fifth largest economy and the fastest growing large economy in the world. Prime Minister has set the target to be a developed nation – Viksit Bharat by 2047 when we will complete 100 years of our independence and as tax administrators we will play a crucial role to achieve this target.
As a part of the celebration, Music Programme by ‘Kalaimamani’ Rajhesh Vaidhya (Veena Instrumental), Malavika Rajhesh and Sreekanth Hariharan was organized. The performance by Rajhesh Vaidhya and team enthralled the audience with patriotic songs and fascinating instrumental music in ‘Veena’.
