The inaugural Chennai Navy Half Marathon concluded on Sunday as a resounding success, transforming the city’s streets into a powerful celebration of fitness, unity and social responsibility. Over 8,000 runners participated across three competitive and community-focused categories, marking one of Chennai’s largest mass-participation sporting events of the year.
Chennai, December 14, 2025 — The inaugural Chennai Navy Half Marathon, a celebration of strength, unity, and purpose, concluded today as a grand success. Nearly 8,000 participants thundered across the city in three thrilling categories:

The event featured:
- 21.1 km Half Marathon – INS Adyar Run
- 10 km Timed Run – INS Parundu Run
- 5 km Fun Run – INS Pallava Run
The races were flagged off sequentially from the War Memorial at 04:45 AM, 05:45 AM and 06:30 AM, with runners embracing the event’s core messages—a Drug-Free India, resistance to online betting, and the celebration of Nari Adishakti. The themes struck a strong chord with the Chennai public, drawing enthusiastic participation across age groups.
Inclusivity Takes Centre Stage
Calling the marathon “a triumph of inclusivity,” the Managing Director of Bank of Baroda highlighted the diverse participation that defined the event.
“Participants included wheelchair athletes, visually impaired runners with guides, special children and community groups—truly reflecting the spirit of togetherness,” the Managing Director said.
One of the most moving moments was a visually impaired runner demonstrating remarkable stick-work technique, earning spontaneous applause and admiration from spectators and fellow runners alike.
Seamless Execution, Strong Institutional Support
Blessed with ideal weather conditions, well-placed hydration points, robust medical support and efficient traffic management by Chennai Police, the marathon unfolded safely and smoothly. The Indian Navy’s meticulous coordination ensured a world-class experience for participants.
Key support came from Chennai Police, NEB Sports, Cauvery Hospitals and JM Baxi Logistics, contributing significantly to the event’s success. Prize money totalling ₹10 lakh was awarded across categories.
Dignitaries from Bank of Baroda, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Tamil Nadu Police and other partner organisations lauded the collaborative effort. Appreciation was also extended to Tamil Nadu Tourism, Chennai Metro Rail and Dream Runners for their crucial logistical and promotional support. Runners were treated to a hot breakfast from Adyar Anand Bhavan, adding warmth to the early-morning celebration.
A Vision for the Future
Addressing the gathering, Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, NM, Flag Officer Commanding Tamil Nadu and Puducherry Naval Area, underlined the larger vision behind the initiative.
“This is just the beginning. Bank of Baroda and the Chennai Navy Half Marathon are poised for a lasting partnership, promoting fitness while reinforcing noble social values,” he said.
The Chennai Navy Half Marathon has thus set a new benchmark for inclusive sporting events, leaving behind a memorable milestone—one that Chennai will cherish and build upon in the years to come.
