As part of the International Men’s Day celebrations, 13 men who have worked for the empowerment of women have been recently honored with TIMA (The Ideal Man Awards) Awards in a glittering function in Ahmedabad.
Former Gujarat IAS officer SK Nanda and Sun Media Services Founder and CEO Ankit Hingu were among the 13 men who were felicitated by chief Guest Jambaj Manjita Vanzara IPS, special guests world traveler and writer Priti Sengupta and social activist Daksha Behin Shah.
Retired IAS officer SK Nanda has been working for women empowerment in the Hindi heartland of Uttar Pradesh. Under ‘Ghar Pe Aye Nani Pari’, his scheme covers more than 25 districts, which is a big deal. More than 1,000 girls have so far been given funds to help get good nutrition and boost their confidence levels.
In his acceptance speech, Ankit Hingu said, “I believe that there should be gender equality in all the fields and women should be treated as queens. It is not enough to just save girls, they should be groomed well to make their future better. As we all know, the drop out ratio of women in the media industry is very high. To arrest this trend, our Sun Media has started the Gujarat Media Awards encouraging inspiring journalists such as Manisha Sharma, Devanshi Joshi, Jyoti Undkat and many others. Our aim is to support and honor women in journalism with the hope that the media industry will shine with the best female stars.”
Speaking with navjeevanexpress.com, Manisha Sharma, founder of TIMA, said, “This is thefourth edition of TIMA. It is not an event, but a movement! We have been celebrating International Women’s Day for many years but not celebrating Men’s Day, so today the conscious women of Gujarat gathered and honored the “Sad Grihastha” or Good Family Men, who always display supporting women of substance. The Greek word TIMA means ‘Honour of God’. With this concept, Adarsh Purusha Award is organized.
“TIMA is given to men who respect women, who always help women, promote women empowerment and celebrate the birth of the girl child, work for gender equality and inspire the women’s equality and empowerment movement. However some men in the society are responsible for atrocities on women, besides, we also have many noble men with principles and values. We want to thank the men who have played a positive role in bringing out the potential of women in their families, organizations and society,” Sharma added.
TIMA was started in the year 2019 and 25 men were awarded on this occasion. 17 men were honored in 2020 and 19 men in 2021, respectively. This year, we have received 677 nominations out of which 13 men had been selected. But this movement will continue in the coming years as well.
The founder of TIMA, Manisha Sharma is a TV filmmaker and writer who founded Dirgha Media Production House. She is also the co-founder of AFF (Ahmedabad Film Festival), co-author of Hello Gujarat Achiever book series and creative head of hellogujarattv.com.
