The 119-years old tech-savvy City Union Bank (CUB) headquartered at Kumbakonam, extended its helping hand in upgrading the Grater Chennai Traffic Police with the First Digital True Color LED Police Booth at the busy junction at Thousand Lights at a cost of Rs 5.5 lakh under its CSR initiative.
The facility was officially unveiled by the Additional Commissioner of Police Kapilkumar C Saratkar, GCTP in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police (GCTP – Chennai South) N Mayilvahanan and Deputy Commissioner of Police (GCTP – Chennai East) Samay Singh Meena, City Union Bank General Manager G Sankaran and Assistant Commissioner of Police GCTP C K Ravi on Tuesday.
- City Union Bank sponsored First Digital True Color LED Police Booth on Anna Salai under the CSR and few more such facilities may be provided to GCTP wing: G Sankaran, General Manager, CUB
- Over 100 such traffic junctions were identified for upgrading the traffic umbrella: Additional Commissioner of Police Kapilkumar C Saratkar, GCTP
- The top cop appeals to the private sector, public sector banks to come forward and extend these kinds of facilities under their CSR initiatives.

Unveiling the facility Kapilkumar C Saratkar said, “The GCTP is taking various steps to provide good working space for policemen who are toiling under the scorching sun in regulating traffic in important road junctions in the city. As part of this initiative, the CUB has come forwarded to upgrade this police booth with added amenities and also it would be first Digital True Color LED in all the three sides in the city.”
He also appealed the private sector, public sector banks to come forward to extend these kinds of facilities under their CSR initiatives.
Replying to a query, he said that over 100 such traffic junctions were identified for upgrading the traffic umbrella. GCCP has ordered for 28 additional traffic umbrellas. GCTP is in the process of identifying the fault signals around the city and taking steps to revive them as quick as possible.
Immediate upgradation of the police booth at Spencer’s junction is in the pipeline, he added.
