Lieutenant General Karanbir Singh Brar, General Officer Commanding, Dakshin Bharat; Dr. Lakshmi TK, Founder & President, Mastermind Foundation (MMF), Tamil Nadu; SK Dogra IPS (Retd), Former DGP, Special Advisor, MMF; (Lt Gen) KS Brar, President Zonal AWWA, Col B Solanki, Commandant, OD, Avadi, Lt Col N.Thiagarajan, General Secretary, MMF, Army officials and Jawans with their families participated in the mega plantation drive.
The Goverrnor said, “On this occasion, when we promote the tree plantations, we are promoting consciousness about environmental protection and preservation. Today, our world is facing an existential crisis of unprecedented change in the climate. We are talking about how to protect and preserve the climate and how to stem the global temperature rise. While most of the countries responsible for causing the climate problem are talking about it at the intellectual level, at the emotional level they haven’t appreciated it. That is why concepts such as carbon trading have been introduced, which means developed countries can’t reduce their carbon-based energy consumption, so they ask developing countries to consume less energy, and in lieu of that, they promise some points and some wealth. That is not the honest way to deal with this impending crisis.”
Dwelling at length on this green drive, the Governor said, “In our country, Bharat, we don’t look at the nature as mere resources; we look at it as a part of our being. This is our ancient Sanatan civilization, which believes in the unity of creation. Oneness of Creation, which believes that whether they are plants or animals, we are all the children of the Mother Earth. So being the children of the same mother, we are all members of the same family. With this understanding comes belief, which we call in the ancient Tamil text “Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir”, Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the world as a family. When the world is a family, it is not just a family of humans; it is a family of the entire elements of creation, i.e., plants, animals, and inanimate. Because of western thinking and influence and because of the western system of teaching, we are forgetting those values. We believe in the harmonious existence of all the elements. This is in the DNA of our country, Bharat. This has to be reiterated and reinforced again and again. Especially in the younger generation, which has been deprived of these values because of the western education system. Our values are not built over decades; they have been built over centuries. It is a heritage of our thousands of years of civilization. We need to reiterate and infuse this sense of our priceless heritage into all our people.”
