Ahead of Vigilance Awareness Week to be observed in October, the Directorate of Vigilance (South Zone), Income-tax Department, Chennai in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Merchants Association has organized an awareness programme on Public Interest Disclosure & Protection of Informer Resolution, 2004 (PIDPI).
It was organized on Tuesday at Nandana Party Hall, Royapettah, Chennai. The programme was organised with the objective to create awareness among the Merchants to raise voice against the corruption, malpractice or misconduct from whatever source. This programme was organized as a prelude to observance of Vigilance Awareness Week to be organized during the month of October 2023. Around 140 participants attended and benefitted by the programme.
Swapna Nanu Ambatt, Additional Director General (Vigilance) (South Zone), Chennai addressed the gathering and explained how the complaint has to be addressed and how the identity of the complainant is kept confidential for all complaints lodged under it. Further, she stated that the merchants should come forward to inform about the corruption, malpractice and misconduct through PIDPI.
She explained to the gathering that under this resolution, the identity of the complainant is kept secret and therefore the complainant is protected from any victimization for making complaints. She stressed upon the importance of honesty and integrity in both the personal and professional life. She also said that being vigilant helps to keep the nation on the path of progress. She encouraged all to contribute to the development of the nation being vigilant and through participation.
Rohan Raj, Additional Director of Income Tax (Vigilance) (South Zone), Chennai, State General Secretary of the Merchants Federation R Rajkumar, Chennai, Zonal President of the Federation K Jyothilingam and State Additional Secretary of the Federation VP Mani also participated in the programme.
