Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry Sunil Mathur IRS on Monday laid the foundation stone for the office building and staff quarters of the Income Tax Department at Tiruppur.
- The estimated cost of this project is ₹60.87 crore
- It will also house 53 Nos. of Residential Quarters (16 Type-II, 25 Type-III, 10 Type-IV and 2 Type-V)
- The proposed office building will have basement car parking, the first-of-its-type in an Income Tax Office in this region
- The Building is planned in such a manner, it is differentially abled friendly and there are resting and relaxing rooms for lady officers to be used when they are unwell. The building is planned with the crèche facility for the benefit of working women with the small kids

Principal Chief Commissioner also unveiled the foundation stone plaque at the site. In his speech, he said, “The construction of new office building and residential accommodation will be a model project in this region with all modern facilities. With the untiring efforts of our Officers and Officials of the Department, land measuring 1.72 acres was acquired from Tamilnadu Khadi and Village Industries for a value of Rs 20.20 Crores on 23.01.2020. The proposal for construction of Office and Residential buildings was taken up with CPWD authorities and after various rounds of discussions the drawings were finalized based on the requirement as per the Manual of Infrastructure. Subsequently, request was submitted before the Competent Authority for Administrative Approval and Financial Sanction for construction of office building and Residential Quarters at the cost of Rs. 60.87 Crores.”
“The Competent Authority accorded the Administrative Approval and Financial Sanction for an amount of Rs. 60.87 Crores for construction of Office Building and 53 Nos. of Residential Quarters (16 Type-II, 25 Type-III, 10 Type-IV and 2 Type-V), including electrical services for Income Tax Department at Tirupur,” he added.
The special features of the buildings are:
The proposed office building will have basement car parking, the first-of-its-type in an Income Tax Office in this region. The office complex has a parking space for 23 Four- wheelers in addition to parking space for 46 two-wheelers. The office Building is structured in G+3 model. The ground floor houses a multi-purpose hall which can accommodate 100 persons at a time and it will be the biggest hall in an office complex under CCIT Coimbatore charge. The Building is planned in such a manner, it is differentially abled friendly and there are resting and relaxing rooms for lady officers to be used when they are unwell. The building is planned with the crèche facility for the benefit of working women with the small kids. The building is also planned taking into consideration of all existing fire safety norms and guidelines. Spacious office chambers are being provided for officers and officials in addition to the waiting rooms and conference halls. The total built-up area of office building will be 5284.5 sq.m
The location of the office is easily accessible to the taxpayers as the land is in prime area of the city. It was stated that the new office building would effectively enhance the tax administration and enable redressal of grievances of tax payers. The office building and residential quarters would enhance the working environment and also meet the housing requirements of the officials working in Income Tax office Tiruppur.

The Income Tax Office, Tiruppur was created in the year during early 1970’s. Currently, the Income Tax Office is functioning with the sanctioned strength of around 100 Officers and Officials which includes 1 Jurisdictional Range with the Establishment Section, 1 Assessment Unit and 1 ITO from TDS Range. Apart from the city of Tiruppur, the territorial jurisdiction of the Tiruppur Range is very vast and includes Avinashi, Palladam, Dharapuram and Madathukulam. Presently, the office is functioning in two hired buildings which are 7 Km apart.

With an aim to support its employees having babies, Tamilnadu & Puducherry Income Tax Department in Trichy opened ‘Anicham’—a state-of-the-art crèche—on its campus here.
Sunil Mathur, IRS, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Tamilnadu & Puducherry inaugurated it at Income Tax Office , 44, Williams Road, Cantonment, Trichy in the presence of Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Trichy .
“As part of welfare measure for the children of the Officers and Officials to provide a protected environment and to ensure a safe heaven, fostering their curiosity, creativity and social skills, a Crèche facility was thought of, so that the parents who are working in the office would handle both the personal and official responsibilities efficiently. With such noble idea, the Crèche facility along with play area has been setup inside the premises of the Income tax Building,” a release said.
During the inauguration, Bijoy Kumar Panda, IRS, PCIT, VU-1, Trichy; T. Diwakar Prasad, IRS, PCIT,VU-1, Coimbatore; S. Ravichandran, PCIT(Appeals), IRS, Trichy; J. Saravanan, IRS, CIT (ADMN & TPS), Chennai; Kumar Ajeet, IRS, CIT (Appeals), Salem; J. Bhuvaneswary, IRS, JCIT(Admin), Chennai and other senior officers of the department were present.
