With Ahmedabad emerging as the Sports Capital of the nation, parents encourage their children to take part in sports along with their academic life. Ahead of holding Olympics 2036, Gujarat is grooming young sports aspirants by setting up excellent infrastructure and top-notch coaches to train them. It is paying good dividends now.
In a moment of pride for Ahmedabad and India, 15-year-old Anika Todi, a student of The Riverside School, Ahmedabad, has made history by becoming the youngest Indian girl to qualify and participate in the International Sports Federation (ISF) Games 2024, held in Bahrain from October 23 to 31.
Anika participated in the track and field events of shot put and javelin throw and came up with outstanding performances. Despite competing against athletes aged up to 18 years, Anika finished in the top 8 in javelin throw and top 10 in shot put. More than 5,400 students from 60+ countries participated in the ISF Games 2024.
ISF Games are one of the largest international sporting events for students, providing a platform for young athletes like Anika to showcase their skills on a global stage.
The School Sports Games “Gymnasiade” are held every two years under the supervision of the International School Sport Federation, and the Kingdom of Bahrain has the honor of hosting the 11th edition. The first Gymnasiade was held in Brussels in 1990.

She is a trainee at the Cafse Academy under AFI coach Joseph Sebastian at the St Xavier’s College premises.
