Aiming to revalidate the procedures and policies established for responding to maritime SAR by all stakeholders, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) conducted the two-day Regional level Search and Rescue Exercise 2025 (ReSAREX-2025) off Vadinar on March 5-6, under the aegis of Headquarters, Coast Guard Region (North-West).

“The exercise involved participation from National Maritime Search and Rescue Board members, various Oil Handling Agencies and representatives of State Government. With the theme ‘Synergizing Search and Rescue Response through Regional Collaboration and Technology Integration’, the exercise included live demonstration of a Mass Rescue Operation (MRO) at sea. Key elements of the MRO included mass evacuation, triage and provisioning of immediate medical care. The event highlighted ICG Leadership in Maritime Safety,” says a Defence release.

The exercise aimed to revalidate the procedures and policies established for responding to maritime SAR by all stakeholders, including Service and Civil Hospitals, besides ensuring readiness and integration of the resource agencies, equipment, communication procedures and effectiveness on training of Maritime SAR.

The two-day exercise included an inaugural session which was followed by Table Top Exercise on Day 1 with SAR demonstration during sea exercise, covering various aspects of Maritime Search and Rescue, on
Day 2. The Sea exercise focused on showcasing techniques such as recovery of survivors from water, onboard treatment of injured personnel, and rapid evacuation procedures. The exercise also aimed at refining tactics, identifying gaps in protocols and fostering inter-agency collaboration, the statement added.

The Indian Coast Guard remains steadfast to safeguard Nation’s Maritime interests and ensuring safety at sea. This exercise again affirms motto of the Indian Coast Guard ‘We Protect’.
