Chief Minister Vijay Rupani on Monday announced that the school managements have been directed not to raise the fees in the ensuing academic year and allow the poor parents to pay the fees for March-May in staggered manner in monthly instalments.
Providing details about the Chief Minister’s decision, Secretary to CM Ashwani Kumar said, “ Based on the guidance provided by the Chief Minister, Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama held a meeting with the heads of various schools on Sunday. It was decided that schools across Gujarat will not increase academic fees for the coming year considering the crippled state of employment amidst the pandemic. The school authorities should not pressurise the parents and guardians for payment of fees once the lockdown is lifted. The school authorities have been instructed to extend the deadline of fee payment by 6 months.”

He said the order regarding the fees will be binding on all schools in the state include private and self-financed entities.
“In another decision, if the financial condition of a parent is weak, such parents can pay the fees for March-April-May months, anytime within six months from June to November, 2020,” Kumar said adding that the fee can be staggered in monthly installments or paid as lump sum.
When asked if the state government during the meeting proposed to the school management to forgo the fees for these three months, the official replied in the negative.

Rather than paying the fees on a trimester basis, parents and guardians now have the liberty to pay the fees monthly.
Evaluation of Std 10, Std 12 Board exm papers to commence on April 16
The centralized evaluation of exam papers for standard 10th and 12th will start on April 16. Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Board will make all the required arrangements to ensure the safety of all those involved in evaluating the papers and also ensure the aspect of social distancing. Extra classrooms will be arranged to ensure the same.
Colleges, universities to observe one-month vacation
Government and its affiliated colleges and universities shall observe vacation from h April 15 to May 16. The decision on holding examinations will be taken after te reopening on May 17 in consultation with the AICTE and the UGC.
Providing details about the stock of essential items, he said, “46.63 lakh litres of milk has been distributed. 82,899 quintals of vegetables and 22,894 quintals of fruits are available in the state. 1 crore 10 lakh 58 thousand food packets have been distributed to the aged, helpless and the needy living alone.”
