A heartwarming cultural initiative is unfolding at Namo Ghat, Varanasi, where children from boatmen families have begun learning Tamil under the Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 programme. At the Vidya Shakti stall managed by IIT Madras, daily Tamil learning sessions are being conducted—an effort that beautifully bridges two of India’s most ancient civilisations.
The children have taken an inspiring pledge to learn five Tamil words every day, enabling them to warmly welcome and converse with visitors from Tamil Nadu. What began as a language activity has grown into a movement of connection, dignity, and cultural pride.
- Tamil learning sessions at Namo Ghat unite cultures through “Let’s Learn Tamil, Tamil Karkalam”
- Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 inspires young learners to embrace one of the world’s oldest classical languages
Tamil, one of the world’s oldest and richest classical languages, is offering these children more than vocabulary. It is introducing them to a timeless literary tradition, a vibrant identity, and stories that echo across millennia. Learning Tamil also opens new pathways for cultural interaction and tourism, especially for boatmen families who frequently engage with pilgrims and travellers along the Ganga.
The initiative reinforces the ancient bond between Kashi and Tamil Nadu, a connection rooted in shared spirituality, arts, and heritage. As the children discover new words and new worlds, they are also learning the deeper truth that language is the most powerful bridge to unite hearts.
At the heart of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 lies the spirit of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.” When children of Kashi speak Tamil and guests from Tamil Nadu feel at home on the ghats of Varanasi, the cultural unity of India shines with new brilliance.
What started as a small learning circle at Namo Ghat is poised to grow into a landmark cultural transformation—affirming that the Ganga and the Kaveri are not just rivers, but living threads that bind the soul of a nation.
