- High-speed triage, infection-safe isolation and bedside diagnostics redefine golden-hour response
- Police–hospital synergy aims to curb trauma fatalities amid persistent road accident burden
- Protocol-driven design targets sub-30-minute door-to-decision time in critical cases
Designed to handle a high volume of acute cases with speed and precision, the specialised Emergency Department (ED) features 18 standard acute care beds and one dedicated isolation bed, enabling stringent infection control and the safe management of contagious emergencies, including sepsis and airborne infections, in line with current clinical guidelines.
The ED is further strengthened by on-site, point-of-care diagnostics, including portable bedside X-ray facilities for immediate chest, extremity and abdominal imaging without patient transport, and Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) for real-time bedside evaluation—significantly reducing turnaround time for critical clinical decisions.
Inaugurating the facility, Samay Singh Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tambaram City Police, said,
“Road accidents continue to place a heavy burden on families and emergency services. As per the State’s Provisional Report, June 2025, road accident analysis shows an average of 191 accidents and 48 fatalities per day. While fatalities have reduced by 11.64 percent compared to the same period last year, the numbers remain a serious concern. Chennai recorded 2,016 accidents, followed by Tambaram with 995. This is why strengthening rapid ‘golden hour’ response and trauma-ready emergency care is essential alongside sustained enforcement and prevention.”
Addressing the media, Mr Samay Singh Meena said that Tambaram City Police will coordinate closely with Gleneagles Hospitals, Chennai to save the precious life of accident victims.
Emphasising the patient-centric vision behind the new Emergency Wing, Mr. Bharath Kanth Reddy R Y, Chief Executive Officer, Chennai & Hyderabad Cluster, Gleneagles Hospital, said,
“We have built this Emergency Wing to meet the needs of patients first — quick access, clear pathways, and safer segregation where required. With strong infection-control design and 24×7 readiness, our focus is to deliver consistent emergency care with speed, safety and accountability from the moment a patient arrives.”
Highlighting operational efficiency and faster bedside decisions, Ms S Niranjani, COO & Hospital Head, Gleneagles Hospital, Chennai, said,
“This ED is structured for rapid bedside decision-making. With resuscitation capability, real-time monitoring, and tools, teams can assess and initiate treatment faster. Backed by evidence-based protocols we are working towards a door-to-decision time under 30 minutes.”
Detailing the clinical workflow, Dr Sriram R, HOD, Emergency Medicine, Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, said,
“The New Emergency department is designed for seamless workflow, which includes dedicated resuscitation bays, minor procedure rooms, and a centralized nursing station with real-time monitoring of patients during emergency.”
Responding to queries, Dr Sriram said that the ambulance attached with this programme will reach out to victims within 15 minutes of receiving calls, adding that first aid and life-saving treatment will begin inside the ambulance itself, supported by experienced and dedicated paramedical staff.
With this landmark launch, Gleneagles Hospital Chennai continues to scale up its emergency care capabilities—integrating clinical expertise, advanced technology and patient-centric design—to deliver faster interventions, safer outcomes and renewed hope in moments where every minute can mean the difference between life and loss.
